European scientists, companies, and clusters, as part of the Model2Bio project, have created a decision-support tool to identify and efficiently recycle food production residues. This software considers technical, economic, and environmental factors, helping agri-food companies, waste management firms, and bio-industries optimize resource usage. It addresses three key questions: What can be extracted from a residue, how to do it economically, and what are the environmental and social impacts? By answering these, the tool recommends the most cost-effective and sustainable methods for recovering materials, chemicals, or energy from food production residues, promoting alternative ways to utilize these resources.
