On December 3, 2023, the EPA, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and FDA released a draft “national strategy for reducing food loss and waste and recycling organics”. There are four main objectives of the strategy: prevent food loss, prevent food waste, increase organic waste recycling, and support policies that encourage and incentivize those efforts. Beginning on Tuesday December 5, 2023, there will be a open public comment period for 30 days where the public can provide feedback on the draft. The draft national strategy was announced during the 28th Conference of the parties as a key deliverable for the U.S. and follows the National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health from September 2022.
