Entomal Biotech, a startup based in Kuala Lumpur, has a mission to convert food waste into insect protein derived from black soldier fly larvae. They have been collaborating with a range of clients, such as city councils and corporations, to repurpose food waste into animal feed, initially starting at pet food. Their overarching goal is to provide protein bars to countries in need, in conjunction with UNICEF. While their pet food line has already been introduced in Malaysia, Entomal Biotech aims to expand globally, with a particular focus on Europe. Additionally, they are currently testing and creating a wound-healing cream for pets. This inventive approach not only tackles the issue of food waste but also holds positive impacts for pet nutrition. However, it is crucial to address the consumer acceptance challenges that arise when introducing insect-based products to broader markets.
