The Donations and Discount Depot is a pilot program sponsored by the Illinois farm bureau to curb food waste at the producer level, providing a discounted sale or donation link to qualifying entities.  This allows for farmers to offload production surplus they may have as a result of fluctuating demand or failed contracts.  For perishable items such as produce, this cutting out of the middlemen of the traditional supply chain process gives more time to distribute and use what they receive at their food banks and pantries.
