Campaign group Feedback, backed by companies such as Toast Ale and Olio, are threatening legal action against the UK government due to its decision to scrap plans for mandatory food waste reporting for large and medium-sized food businesses. The proposal had initially received overwhelming support, with 99% of respondents favoring it. However, the government is now considering extending voluntary reporting until at least 2025, a move that Feedback and its supporters criticize as insufficient. They argue that mandatory reporting is essential given the significant environmental and economic advantages, as well as the substantial contribution of food waste to global emissions. This ongoing dispute raises concerns about the UK’s approach to tackling food waste and its environmental impact, potentially leading to legal challenges.
