Middletown, Connecticut is introducing a new program, called Save as You Throw, to encourage its citizens to reduce food waste. They now have two different colored trash bags to separate the normal trash from the food waste. Green bags, which are cheaper, are for food scraps, and orange, more expensive, bags are for normal trash.  With this new system, the city projects the average person’s bill to decrease by $120. The city will be using these food scraps and the methane from it to create electricity for the city.
