The International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction is September 29th. Pope Francis spoke on food waste to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization on Friday for the occasion. The Pope explained that food is a fundamental right to life, and food waste is not just food that could be eaten by others, but also a waste of labor, resources, and energy. He also made a point that the increase in the world’s population is not the reason there is not enough food for everyone, but rather the lack of food redistribution. The Pope believes by putting in financial resources and working together food waste can be put to end.
