Suez, a waste management company, has recently partnered with the Enrich the Earth coalition. This coalition aims to tackle issues related to organic waste management in the UK. One of the key concerns highlighted by the group is the significant amount of food and green waste, totaling 14 million tons per year. This emphasizes the urgent need for action in reducing contamination and addressing infrastructure challenges. As part of their proposed solution, they aim to increase household composting rates from 33% to 50%, potentially saving 1 million tons of waste processing. However, it is important to note that substantial investments would be required to establish anaerobic digesters nationwide. Adam Read, Suez’s Chief External Affairs and Sustainability Officer, underlined the importance of reducing contamination to improve compost quality.
