The city of Harrisonburg, VA is taking a more aggressive step to alleviating food waste in their community by creating a designed compost area. The bins will be available for all residents 24 hours a day. The city then donates or sells to farmers around the Shenandoah Valley area. This is a simple yet incredibly effective way to address food waste in cities, the local government stepping in and alleviating responsibility from the consumer and turning it into a net gain.
