The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $25 million investment, funded under the American Rescue plan, to address food loss and waste. This investment aims to address the issue of one-third of available food waste in the United States. The investment plans to expand USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) existing programs, such as the Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program, redistribute surplus food, and strengthen local food systems. This not only benefits communities but also enhances food security.
