A South Australian startup is using black soldier fly larvae to turn food waste into high‑protein livestock feed, which is a lower emission alternative to traditional feed sources. The operation collects food scraps from local businesses, feeds them to the larvae, and then processes the mature larvae into a sustainable feed ingredient for poultry, pigs, and aquaculture. Black soldier fly larvae rapidly consume organic waste, reducing its volume by up to 80%. The project supports local farmers by providing a new feed source. It also creates regional jobs and reduces waste‑management costs for nearby towns. Insect farming uses far less land, water, and energy than conventional feed production and also helps cut methane emissions by keeping food waste out of landfill.
