The grocery store Aldi, originally founded in Germany, has launched a new program aimed at reducing food waste. The company announced that they will be reducing prices to help alleviate food waste. This initiative will be made feasible by cutting back the amount of products ordered by Aldi therefore, giving them the ability to lower the prices. While this initiative is not necessarily aimed at reducing food waste and has more emphasis on reducing costs. The managing director stated that this effort is still a large priority and is a bonus to their cause. The company has also recently made a goal of reducing their perishable products by 75% towards the end of its shelf life. These efforts have made Aldi a cheaper and more sustainable option for grocery shopping and the UK even named Aldi as the cheapest supermarket in September of 2021.
