On the 16th of October, World Food Day was observed and in preparation for this celebration, the United Nations reminds us just how significant our food waste crisis is. Currently almost half of our population cannot afford to eat healthy foods and the impact of COVID-19 caused an additional 140 million people to struggle accessing food. It is not only the constant waste of food that affects our planet but the production of such harmful and chemical ridden foods that are produced for much lower costs are even more harmful. The UN started the UN Food Systems Summit which is aimed at changing the way food systems work to create more sustainable food systems. The goal is to have a healthy agri-food system, which is defined as the life-cycle of all foods and processes they endure. These processes are supposed to be more sustainable and less wasteful and the UN is urging the world to move towards these goals.
