Since July 2020, Act 148 of the Universal Recycling Law has banned food scraps from landfills. To adapt to this recent law, the University of Vermont has partnered with Casella Waste Systems to create a new method of Lessing food waste within landfills. Such a method is based upon a depackaging system that will push for an organic solution, which can benefit the environment by being recyclable and compostable. The goal is to be less dependent upon natural resources, instead, drive to preserve them. Let’s push for a “greener” cost-efficient way of capitalizing upon natural resources without negatively impacting the environment.
