Lawmakers introduce proposal to reduce food waste by fifty percent by 2030. The proposal was first introduced by Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine and Republican Rep. Mike Lawler of New York in the U.S. House. Then, Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware and Republican Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas proposed it in the U.S. Senate. The legislation is said to improve collaboration between food waste prevention and recovery organizations and the USDA. New technological innovations will be supported by the proposal as well as encourage a new approach to food waste but the federal government. An Office of Food Loss and Waste will also be established within the USDA, as well as combatting food waste throughout every aspect of the system.
