Clark County’s senior environmental outreach specialist, Pete DuBois, believes keeping food waste out of landfills is a great and inexpensive way to cut greenhouse gas emissions. When organic matter breaks down in landfills, the harmful greenhouse gas methane is released. Composting can reduce the amount of methane released in decomposition. There are many ways to do so, whether it be creating your own compost bin, or donating food waste to someone else that composts. Contributing to composting in areas such as Clark County can help Washington reach its state goal of reducing organic waste to 75% of 2015 levels by 2030.
