Naomi Ward, age 9, from J.R Lowell Elementary, had an epiphany watching so many students throwing away unopened food throughout the school day. Ward has started a project along with her mom to collect food from the kindergarten class to donate at the Watertown Community Fridge. Ward’s efforts have successfully donated 400 pounds of food in just 3 months. Seeing the success of Ward’s program, the school has taken interest and is now raising money for a community reserve in its own cafeteria for food insecure students.
