A project spearheaded by Uganda Christian University (UCU) is tackling food waste in Kampala by transforming it into livestock feed. With government support, the team, under Geoffrey Sepuya, is implementing a multi-stage process: gathering, cleaning, drying, grinding, and packaging food scraps for use as chicken and pig feed. This $63,700 initiative, funded by the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology, plans to scale up operations and expand nationwide. The team emphasizes the importance of community sensitization and changing attitudes towards waste sorting to ensure the project’s success.
