Only about 4% of household food waste was composted in 2019, and food waste contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, products like the FoodCycler by Vitamix Eco 5, could be a big step towards decreasing the amount of food waste that ends up in landfills. Although this specific product does not technically compost what is put in, it does dehydrate and grind it down into a soil amendment. This household product can fit on countertops, run at home, contains odor trappers, and the result produced after running can be used as a fertilizer for yards, gardens, and planter boxes. The prices for these types of products are currently high, but once cheaper versions are available, this could be a great way for each house to lower waste.
