The city of Denver’s Department of Public Health & Environment created a challenge named Save More, Waste Less with the aim of reducing food waste. They asked their employees to compete against each other to see how much food could be saved by getting creative and repurposing leftovers. More than 500 employees across Denver signed up ready to fight for one of the gift cards that would be handed out to the top three participants. By the end of this challenge, employees found that they were able to get creative in the kitchen and use ingredients in ways they never thought possible. One of the biggest takeaways that the participants pinpointed was that the average household could save up to $1,800 a year by using leftovers and scraps. Residents in Denver can use the hashtag #NoWastedFoodDenver to share their experiences.
