Since households throw out so much food, Hudson Valley has created the “Hudson Valley Food Waste Challenge”. It is a  interactive challenge that teaches the community about food waste and how to waste less. They are given tips on how to reduce their waste and save time and money when grocery shopping. They are learning how to properly store food and then how to make meals out of those foods. It costs $25 and this gives you access to the online community, a toolkit, and ways to track how much food you are saving. You also get a t-shirt! I think this is a great initiative, it is not just telling people they need to waste less. It’s also providing the tools they need to be successful. I think more places should do these types of “challenges” to help get people excited and educated about food waste!
