The Phoenix Suns basketball team has teamed up with Footprint and are raising awareness to the amount of plastic consumption in daily life. As humans we use plastic every week through food consumption, and it equates to the size of a credit card. The worst part is that it only about 9% of that actually gets recycled. The Footprint partnership has renamed the stadium to the Footprint Center and is striving to rid the stadium of all single use plastics. Stadiums are typically a closed off space where outside food doesn’t come in and inside food doesn’t get out so the effectiveness of recycling should be relatively high. They are also working on an app to order food and it will have options to select if you need napkins or condiments to reduce waste. The awareness of how wasteful traditional stadiums can be will push others into following the footsteps of the Footprint Center.
