Starbucks recently signed the U.S. Food Waste Pact. This pact is a collaborative one that requires companies to record and share data on their food waste and meet certain food waste goals. Previously, Starbucks was already involved in a FoodShare program where they donated leftovers from their store to local food banks in the surrounding communities. According to the article, through the FoodShare program Starbucks had “diverted more than 75 million pounds of food from waste streams and donated more than 63 million meals.” This program is one available to all company-owned stores in the U.S. in Canada. Already implementing this program, combined with joining this pact will allow Starbucks to achieve great strides towards helping to reduce food waste on a more large, corporate level.
