A nation-wide survey has revealed the average household wastes 6.2 cups of food per week, which is 322 cups a year. The survey also found that the price of food is a top issue among consumers, yet 49% of them underestimate how much they can save on average by reducing their waste through composting or having the correct education about food labels. On average, American households can save close to $1,500 by having better inventory skills or by putting the wasted food to use in composts.
