Toledo, Ohio is launching the food waste composting program. The United States Environmental Protection Agency says that 63 million tons of food will be relegated to landfills yearly. This stagnant food releases harmful methane gasses into our atmosphere. The city of Toledo is using $35000 to put collection bins in place for this food waste to be taken away. The city has partnered with GoZERO, a food waste composting company, to repurpose this food waste into compost to be used again in the future. Toldeo are using this one-year trial program to make it easier for citizens to decrease food waste.
