A company called Momentum Recycling is attempting to take food waste from the trash and turn it into power for residents of Utah. Others states (Utah, Colorado, Idaho, and California) contribute their food waste and have it brought to Wasatch Resource Recovery in North Salt Lake, which is where the company begins its process. The process works with microbes that break down the food matter and the methane gas that is produced is harvested. The methane then goes through “gas conditioning” which makes it into a renewable natural gas. This company seems to be doing good work and slowly increasing and expanding their efforts to more customers and neighborhoods.
