Retail Insights conducted a survey that found consumers are making a greater effort to prevent food waste while reducing their overall grocery costs. The survey found that 43% of consumers are only buying the food that they need to directly avoid waste while another 33% are shopping explicitly at discount grocery stores. This survey will allow retailers to adjust their prices and stocking strategies to address what consumers are beginning to care more about. This cultural shift about food waste is the result of necessity and education, people are more concerned about our current climate and with rising grocery costs, wasting food could mean not paying your bills for the low and middle class.
