Scientists at a university in Singapore have found a way to extract cellulose from freeze-dried husks and mix it with glycerol, producing a gel that is cut into bandages, as durian has some antimicrobial properties. The bandages are apparently more cost-effective than conventional bandages and can promote healing of wounds better. This process can also be carried out on other forms of food waste, such as soy beans and used-up grains, to limit the amount of food waste that ends up as pollution.
