The grocery retailer Imperfect Foods challenged DC restaurants to use their choice of Imperfect Foods products to create a dish for customers and divert 1000 pounds of waste. Imperfect Foods is known for saving traditionally undesired produce and groceries, which are still of great quality, and selling them to customers to prevent the loss of perfectly good foods. DC Food Waste Week was an event organized by Imperfect Foods to raise awareness of their own brand but also to raise awareness for reducing food waste in the DC area.
One business, Chaia Tacos, shared their involvement with the event. The restaurant is a vegan taco place, but they wanted to help spread the message of Imperfect Foods. They received a list of foods from Imperfect Foods, where they selected the ingredients they wished to use and created a rice and bean bowl to offer to customers until October 10th.
