The Department of U.S Agriculture presents the city of Richmond Virginia with a $90,000 grant to create a new composting program. Many public locations are now sporting purple and green composting garbage cans outside. A local applied for the grant after she couldn’t make enough compost for her own garden and then after the city hired Real Roots system to do the composting. This program is currently funded till September 2023 and hopes to reach enough of the community to soon implement door-to-door composting services.
