British supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is launching an initiative to power 30 heavy goods vehicles at its Bristol distribution center with biofuel made from its own food waste.  This initiative, in collaboration with UK waste processor RenECO, uses anaerobic digestion to convert food waste into biogas, which is then upgraded to biomethane and liquefied.  This approach reduces emissions by up to 92% in comparison to fossil fuels.  This project also supports Sainsbury’s goal of becoming net zero by 2035.  Lidl has also begun using biomethane from its own food waste in its fleet as well.  Additionally, other UK retailers like Tesco, Morrisons, and Waitrose are exploring implementing biomethane-powered delivery trucks
