SuperGround, a Finnish food tech company, has secured €2.5 million ($2.7 million) to expand its innovative process that turns fish scraps and chicken bones into protein-rich food products like fish balls and nuggets. Instead of discarding these byproducts, SuperGround’s technology repurposes them, reducing food waste and improving resource efficiency.
The funding will help the company move from small-scale testing to full commercial production, allowing more seafood and poultry processors to adopt this method. While the technology is promising for sustainability, its success depends on industry adoption and whether consumers are open to eating products made from upcycled ingredients. Scaling production to meet demand may also pose challenges.
