Spoonfuls, a food recovery organization located in the New England area, has been getting some attention due to one of its most recent pickups. In a single week, Spoonfuls recovered a whopping 182,000 pounds of food, which will go to feeding the needy. This week, they diverted $358,000 worth of food into 145,000 meals. Most of their food comes from grocery stores and farms, but they recently began partnering with wholesalers and universities. This past year, Spoonfuls recovered 6.2 million pounds of food.
Part of their new initiative is to increase their intake of food by increasing the efficiency of their routes, so there won’t have to be too many more new hires and new equipment. They’re also interested in implementing more educational programs with their partners. They want to continue their education on what food they can receive and how it is making an impact. This will not only help their current partners but also future partners when deciding if they want to become a new partner.
This is a great organization making a wonderful impact in the community. By decreasing food insecurity in their local areas, they can hopefully increase the productivity of people in need and help them focus on other important aspects of life instead of struggling to find enough food for themselves and their friends or family.
