According to the article from Washington State University, Safeway made a significant donation to the Cougar Food Pantry, which serves over 4,000 individuals per month. The donation includes food and $20,000 for new refrigerators and freezers. The pantry opened in 2021, and about 12% of the WSU student body has visited once. It has been gaining traction and the donation has helped them continue to fight waste and food insecurity.  Getting local businesses and the WSU involved are positive steps in increasing awareness of food waste in their community.
