Researchers at Case Western Reserve University are creating eco-friendly food packaging that helps reduces plastic waste and helps food last longer. Their new materials, made from plants and special nanoparticles, protect food from contamination and spoilage. While this could save billions of dollars in food loss and help the environment, it mainly addresses the symptoms of waste, not the bigger issues like overproduction or how we store food. To make a real difference, these solutions must be cost effective.
