As a large retail company, Chipotle is taking responsibility by acknowledging its role as a contributor to food waste. As their company expands, they believe so should their waste plan. To do this, Chipotle has recently launched its Harvest program to complement the policy in its 2024 Sustainability Report. This entails pairing individual stores with local charities to donate leftover food to those in need. To further reduce their waste, ⅔ of Chipotle’s have composting policies where food scraps are collected. With these efforts, Chipotle reported that in 2024 they reduced 19,000 tons of food waste, which is equivalent to almost 20 million burritos. Chipotle is changing the food industry for the better by showing how success comes with responsibility, and how simple changes can save millions of burritos.
