Maine wants to introduce new rules to its residency that will urge food rescue through donating and recycling instead of tossing and wasting. One of Maines biggest issues touched on in this article is a mounting trash problem and Greenhouse gas emissions by diverting food waste from landfills. The Legislatures Enviornment and Natural Resource committee held public hearings wanting a bipartisan billing to be passed, as data collected revealed over 360,000 tons of food wasted in Maine alone. LD 1065 being passed would prohibit significant generators of food waste, with advocators saying this would offer social and economic benefits. This proposal doesn’t have a cost estimate yet, and Maine is the only New England state without a ban yet
