In South Buckinghamshire, England, the council has introduced a new format for food waste recycling. After already having both trash cans and recycling bins, the government is looking to introduce food waste bins as well. Each eligible flat in the area will be able to receive a free seven liter kitchen caddy, a roll of liners and an information leaflet. There will also be 140 liter brown communal food waste bins that will be installed in bin stores and will be emptied weekly.

This is all used for the attempt to reduce food waste on the consumer level. Across production, supermarkets, and the consumer level, consumers create the most food waste. While this new introduction to South Buckinghamshire won’t stop the food waste created by consumers, it will properly dispose of it so it is put in a more proper place. This gives consumers a way to do their part and leave the food waste out of the trash, rather putting it in these new bins in order to allow the area to properly dispose of all food waste and reduce its impact on the environment.
