Pope Francis is calling for a “radical paradigm shift” in how the world deals with wasted food in his letter to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. The pope commends the U.N. agency’s efforts to end the enormous amount of food waste. Food waste, Francis said, “shows an arrogant disregard for everything that, in social and human terms, lies behind food production.”. The Pope talked about how when we throw away our surplus of food, we keep it out of the hands of those who lack it. Pope Francis expresses his gratitude in the letter to the U.N. and the FAO for its efforts to stop food waste.
