A community started a new surplus food initiative, Oxford City Fridge, on March 7 by HeartyEarth at the Westgate Hotel. The fridge aims to reduce food waste by redistributing surplus food. 50kg of food was given away at the ribbon cutting. Starting March 17, residents can take free food between 10AM and 6PM daily.
Sâmân Jamshidifard, the founder of HeartyEarth, emphasized that their initiative focuses on surplus food that remains after other charities have taken their share. The fridge is seen as an extension of other community projects like Oxford City Larder and SurplusCurry.
