International Zero Waste Day is on March 30. International experts emphasize that individual efforts alone cannot solve the food waste crisis without robust public-private partnerships (PPPs). According to the UN Environment Program, achieving Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, halving global food waste by 2030, requires a partnership between governments and the private sector to share the financial and operational risks of new waste management. The collaborations help reduce 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions caused by food waste, but also stop the urgent social irony of massive food loss occurring while hundreds of millions of people face hunger or food insecurity.
