BYU recycling repurposes campus food waste into mulch for campus grounds. The composting process transforms uneaten food into a valuable resource instead of sending it to landfills. BYU’s recycling team produces six to eight mulch piles annually. Professor Jonathan Kershaw highlights that composting food waste can significantly reduce environmental impact. Social director Bremen Leak acknowledges the challenges of sustainability but stresses its importance, aligning with BYU’s religious values. The university encourages students to take small, consistent steps toward reducing waste and promoting environmental stewardship.
